RAM ROM
Can be written to and read from. Can only read from.
Holds program being run and data being processed. Stores data and programs permanently.
Volatile: it is cleared when the computer is switched off. Non-volatile: it retains what is stored when the computer is turned off.
RAM microchips are supplied as a module plugged into the motherboard. ROM microchips are installed in the motherboard.
